Quiz: Future in the Past pt.3

Now, for the final part of the ‘future in the past’ quiz. So far, we have looked at the usage of would + verb and was/were going to + verbWe can use both of these forms for different reasons. We can use would + verb for a voluntary action,  promise or to make a prediction, while we use was/were going to + verb for a plan or a prediction.

For these two questions, can you identify why we use the particular form of the future in the past?

  1. David said that he was going to eat at the Mexican restaurant .
  2. He said he would (definitely) meet you outside the cinema at 14:00 .
