Julie received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from West Chester University in 2010, and has been teaching English for 4 years now. She started in Philadelphia where she taught literature, reading, and writing to teenagers. She led after-school poetry workshops, and worked as a writing tutor with Spanish-speaking teens. She also volunteered with a group in South Philadelphia teaching English as a second language to adults. Julie has been with LOI since 2012.
Rin Mitchell is a freelance journalist and ESL teacher. She currently teaches English to college students in China. Previously, she spent 2 years in Barcelona, Spain tutoring children, teens and adults to improve their English speaking and listening skills. Rin works to develop not only their speaking fluency, but their writing and comprehension skills. In addition, Rin has done editing for sports writers from the United States, Canada and the UK for an online sports publication. In her free time, Rin enjoys learning Spanish and Mandarin, sightseeing, visiting museums, traveling, reading, writing, playing sports and spending time with friends and family. Ms. Mitchell graduated from Seattle University with a BA in Mass Communications/Journalism.
Isaac is from the United States and lives in Atlanta, GA. He has 15 years experience teaching all levels of English and business English in the United States, Munich, Germany, Istanbul, Turkey and Brazil. He began his education with a degree in English from Indiana University at Bloomington, and is now preparing for TOEFL prep certification. He speaks fluent German, conversational French and is learning Portuguese.
Davide received his CELTA certificate in 2007, and has traveled and taught around the world ever since. He has a surprisingly diverse professional background, having studied medicine, marketing, and art. He’s also been a hardware developer, and CEO of his own tech company.
Angela Allman is originally from northern California and has a Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in language and literacy. She has worked as a primary school teacher for two years in the U.S. and as an English teacher, living abroad for four years between Czech Republic, Indonesia and Ecuador. She also holds a TEFL Certificate and TKT Certificate. She’s an avid scuba diver and snowboarder. She adores traveling, food and wine. Currently, Angela lives in England and awaits her next big travel adventure.
Gwyn is a native English speaker from the United States with a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and a Cambridge CELTA certification for teaching. She has 6 years of experience as a teacher and has worked in China, Thailand, Australia, USA and Spain. She currently lives in Tanzania. She loves teaching English because she enjoys making language learning easier for her students – and she likes talking to people from all around the world. She can help you speak English better with fun and natural conversation classes that help you evaluate your weaknesses and improve them. She also has experience successfully preparing students for exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, First Certificate, and European Framework Exams (B1, B2).
Peter has taught English for 15 years now and has worked in Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, Egypt, Pakistan, Britain and Ireland. He has a Cambridge certificate in teaching (CELTA) and a Cambridge diploma (DELTA). He can also help you prepare for the Cambridge first certificate (FCE) and advanced (CAE). Peter works with students of all levels from beginner to advanced. “I’ve been told that my strengths lie in pronunciation, explaining grammar, learner-training and teaching better conversation. In my free time I have my own radio show here in Connemara and I swim, juggle and play guitar – but not all at the same time! I’m looking forward to meeting you and helping you with your English.”
In 2007 Mark began working as a Business Development Manager for an educational travel firm located in Santiago, Chile, which enabled him to gain professional experience in other Latin American cities, such as, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Montevideo and Buenos Aires. These experiences, in addition to 16 months living in Santiago, Chile, further immersed him in the region and solidified his decision to reside in Buenos Aires, where he has been living since 2008. He is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning at the University of Buenos Aires.
Rachael Spencer Hill was born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. She is an Oxford certified TOEFL instructor and has experience helping students prepare the FIRST exam. However, she most enjoys helping students improving their conversation skills. Rachael taught English for over three years in Argentina, where she lived and studied for nearly seven years. She is currently finishing her B.S. in Political Sciences at the Universidad del Salvador. She is fluent in Spanish and is learning Russian. Her hobbies include gardening and playing music.
Alex is a native English speaker from Malta. He is TEFL certified, and has taught English in public schools, privately, in companies and in universities for 4 years. He has also prepared students for the TESOL and Cambridge First, PET and KET exams. At university he studied Politics and International Relations at The London School of Economics. He recently moved to Brazil after 4 years of teaching English in Spain. He speaks fluent Spanish and has a good comprehension of Portuguese.
Takeyce is a Canadian citizen who recently moved to the United States from Madrid, Spain where she worked as a certified TEFL Teacher in both American and British English for 6 years . Besides having her CELTA certificate for teaching English, Tina has experience on Wall Street, where she worked as a Trading Technician for JP Morgan Chase, First Manhattan and other financial institutions for 10 years. She was licensed as a broker for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), Options, Debt and Equities.
Tina has a lot to offer students who are interested in learning financial vocabulary, and want to work on their business/financial English.
Tina also studied Art History at the graduate school level, so students interested in Art will also enjoy her classes.
Jonathan Johnson is a native English speaker from Cape Town, South Africa. He taught English in Milan and Rome starting in 1997, and recently moved to France. All together, he has taught English as a Foreign Language for more than 10 years. This includes working in companies to prepare employees to give presentations in English, teaching university level courses and English job interview preparation. Jonathan is fluent in Afrikaans, Italian and is learning French.
Adriana is a Native Portuguese Speaker who studied at Harvard University in the United States, where she earned her CELTA certificate. She has taught English on a one-on-one basis for over three years. She has focused on teaching English to Brazilians, especially beginners. She is familiar with and understands students’ struggles when learning a new language, particularly regarding pronunciation and sentence structure. She lived in the U.S. for a decade and earned several certificates and diplomas.
James Stone is originally from Oxford, England and has been a teacher for 3 years, living abroad between Indonesia and Ecuador and many places in between. He has a degree in music and holds a CELTA Certificate. His hobbies include playing the guitar, piano and scuba diving. He currently lives in Thailand, loves to travel and often writes about his experiences along the way.
Abby is a freelance translator and ESL teacher from New York (state not city). She has a Master’s in Translation and Interpretation from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and Bachelor’s in Spanish and Music from Dickinson College, PA., and is certified to teach ESL. She ‘s taught English for 6 months in Mexico, 4 years in Spain, 2 months in Malta, and most recently spent several months teaching in Brazil.
Based in Philadelphia, Kate Yoon is an ESL teacher and writer with extensive experience living and working abroad. She is a native English-speaking Asian American. She specializes in preparing students for the iBT TOEFL exam and has over five years of experience teaching TOEFL-based courses. She earned her BA at University of Florida in Spanish Language and Literature and her MA at Portland State University in Applied Linguistics/Teaching English As a Second Language. She has taught at various universities including University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, University of Florida in Gainesville, and Portland State University in Portland, OR.
